Among various career choices available in the specialized and competitive world of today, Science and Technology promises exciting challenges and rewards. To pursue a successful career in Science and Technology, students need to acquire the right foundation in Science and Mathematics at the high school level. Foundation-IIT, developed at BASE, is designed to provide this foundation.

Foundation-IIT is a 2-year program that complements students' learning at school. Students entering class IX are eligible to enroll. In addition to Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, it includes a section on Mental Abilities to sharpen mental reflexes in an enjoyable way.

The two aspects of the right foundation are: Clear Understanding and Effective Thinking Skills. A clear understanding of concepts in Science and Mathematics is achieved by gaining an insight into the fundamentals, perceiving the not-so-obvious connectivity between concepts, and grasping the formal mathematical reasoning that binds the concepts.

Effective thinking skills involve application of both convergent and divergent thinking. While convergent thinking facilitates the logic in application of concepts and efficient problem-solving, divergent thinking inculcates the ability to visualize a situation from new perspectives and to discover novel applications of the concepts.

To help the students achieve a Clear Understanding of concepts, Foundation-IIT adopts Interactive Teaching based on the motto 'Explain, not Describe'. Explanation of a subject is essentially an evolution of the concepts, which is different from mere description of facts. Our teaching style will make learning an enjoyable experience, without sacrificing the rigour.

To guide the students in convergent thinking skills, a methodical approach to problem-solving is practiced. Thought-provoking questions and activities have been integrated into the program to encourage divergent thinking. To make science less enigmatic, care has been taken to help students understand the principles of science in what they see around them everyday.

Interactive Lecturing

To enhance the visualization of subtle concepts, multimedia is used aptly for visualization.
